Saying the WTS went apostate after Rutherford died is like saying the Detroit Lions became a bad football team after Matt Millen was fired.

Changes after 1942 are new light from God or an apostasy by the Devil's influence?
by Andrew Derevyanko inthe scriptures and the physical facts clearly show that the work which bible students and jehovah's witnesses did from 1878 till 1942 are not just work of men charles taze russel and joseph franklin rutherford, who were chief servants in the visible part of jehovah's organization, but that such work is a product of god's spirit and in fulfilment of his prophecies written long ago through faithful men of old.. after the days of the apostles of christ jesus gross darkness covered those who were called christians and many began to practice religion or the traditions of men rather than the bible teachings.
then in 1878 till 1918 there was a work of preparing the way before jehovah's coming to the temple through his official representative christ jesus.
(malachi 3:1)such work was done to prepare before the lord a "people for his name" that such ones should be witnesses to his name and kingdom.

How "worldly" people REALLY view Jehovah's Witnesses
by HappyGuy inwhen you are a jw it is pounded into your head that the "world" hates you, wants to kill you, runs around saying all kinds of horrible things about you, and would take away all your rights, freedom of religion, etc, if it could.. when i first left the wtbts organization i told "worldly" friends and family about being a jehovah's witness.
not one of them said anything disrespectful, rude, insulting, or even unkind in any way.
i could just as well have said "i'm a baptist", or "i like comic books".. a few people who know that the wtbts is a cult were concerned over my emotional health, but that was out of a sense of friendship.. i have never met anyone who on hearing the phrase "jehovah's witness" got upset or said "those xxxxx".

carpediem, I would like to point out that the "worldlies" who are shunning you are not typical worldy people. They sound like they're religious fanatics every bit as loony as the JWs.

Did you Have One " Power Controlling " Elder in your Congregations ?
by flipper ini believe many congregations had one, if not 90 % of the congregations i attended.
there seemed to always be one elder that dominated over the other elders and incredibly - in spite of the arrangement being called a " body of elders " many times it seemed that one elder would arise and take control over the other elders.
the other elders would roll over and bow essentially to these power elders.

Most congs I've been in have one. Current one doesn't seem to, that I can tell. Never know behind the scenes, though.

did you go on the ministry in bad weather?
by highdose ini can remember being in the freezing snow and so cold my fingers were numb, i desparatly wanted someone to invite me in, just to warm up even, but no one did.. i got soaked on countless occasions having been dropped off in some remote corner of the territory, trying to find shelter in a thunderstorm.. i got burnt to a crisp in just half an hour in a uk heatwave, of course no one was at home... they were all far more sensible and had gone to the beach!.

I like to meet for service in bad weather, then go on calls by myself. I always try to make the point that it reflects badly on Jehovah to go door-to-door when the weather is inclement. My comments probably haven't stopped anyone from making a fool of themselves (and all JWs) in the door to door work but I hope it's planted a few seeds of rationality in some folks.

As a JW Did you Feel " Guilted " to go to Meetings /Service if Injured /Sick ?
by flipper inmany people in the jehovah's witnesses , older ones, younger ones have been expected to pioneer, go in field service with physical disabilities and are even considered "martyrs" if they push themselves to their physical capacities beyond reasonableness .
thus many witnesses feel sick, exhausted, tired, and essentially fight depression due to high expectations to " burn out " for the wt society.
have any of you experienced this while in the witnesses ?.

They want us to feel guilty whether we attend meeting or miss meeting. They're putting the guilt on both ways nowadays. Alongside the constant counsel to attend meetings they've been giving local needs parts about not spreading your contagious illnesses to the rest of the "friends." So if you stay home you're guilty for "forsaking the gathering together" and if you attend you're guilty of making your brothers and sisters sick.
Nice way to keep people in their place. And don't forget, God doesn't think you deserve anything good, either.

How Many Here Were Turned Down For "Privileges" Because You Weren't "Exemplary"?
by minimus inour odd body of elders would not allow the one person who wanted to mow the lawn at the kingdom hall to do this because he was not getting 10 hours in a month, he was only getting in 7. seriously.. were you ever told you couldn't have a "privilege" because you didn't measure up to their lofty standards?.

No matter what they tell you it is ALL about the number you put on the time slip. Put down anything from 9 to 15 a month and keep the average at around 12 and you'll be given more work to do than any normally adjusted human would want.

IT IS THE BEST WAY OF LIFE, says my Dub sister.
by wobble inas some may remember, i posted about being dubious as to accepting anniversary presents this year from my super-dub family, esp.
my older sister.. well we agreed with the consensus on here that it was best to accept with gratitude and this we have done, but i would just like to reproduce what she wrote in the card accompanying the present and flowers.. after the happy anniversary she wrote :.
"it makes us sad to think of all the anniversaries past when you were part of our christian congregation.

Or you could quote Revelation 12:12 to them: " 12 On this account be glad, YOU heavens and YOU who reside in them! Woe for the earth and for the sea, because the Devil has come down to YOU , having great anger, knowing he has MORE THAN 95 YEARS TO DO WHATEVER ON EARTH HE WANTS!”

This DVD with the very James-Carville-looking Ted Jaracz on it came out at our DC within just a few weeks of studying the WT article that had the "holy spirit" in lowercase and the "Governing Body" in caps. Almost the last straw for me. I'd like to personally thank Ted for giving me another little push toward the door.

Baptism numbers decreasing?
by Mattieu inthe last 3 weekends have seen 3 circuit assemblies in victoria with over 1000 attending each circuit.
yet only 10 baptised over the last 3 weeks, including 3 last weekend.
i can remember a few years ago when only 1 bro was baptised at a 2 day convention.. its funny, when 10-20 were being baptised at each circuit assembly back in the 1980s & early 90s it was always brought out that this was a sign of jehovahs blessing upon the org.

That's what I'm saying. What we're seeing doesn't match what they're telling us. A 4% increase in the USA? Really?
